REGULATION
ART. 1 ORGANIZATION
The first Sea2Sahara edition is conceived, organized and distributed by BHS TRAVELADVISOR SRL and will take place from 21 to 27 November 2021 in Mauritania, catering to runners from all over the world
ART. 2 DEFINITION OF THE RACE
Sea2Sahara is a stage race, open to runners with a free running style, which takes place in a desert environment. There are two possible distances, both divided into 4 sections to be run in 4/5 days:
- ULTRA: the stages will be respectively 23km / 42km / 84km / 21km
- EXTREME: the stages will be respectively 23km / 18km / 42km / 21km
Participants are not requested to be self-sufficient, since refreshments and assistance are provided. In addition to the racing stages, there will be transfers by 4×4 cars both during the rest days and at the end of the race stages
ART. 3: GENERAL CONDITIONS
The first Sea2Sahara edition will be administered in accordance with these regulations, and any subsequent changes that may be made by the organization. Registration for the race represents acceptance of the regulation
ART. 4 CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION OF PARTICIPANTS
Anyone who meets the following conditions will be accepted:
- Age> = 18 years
- any citizenship
- presentation of a medical certificate issued by a sports doctor certifying the ability to participate in the competition and an ECG report under stress
Anyone over the age of 16 can participate with the consent and written authorization of a parent or guardian. They will have to meet the same requirements as adults. All participants must necessarily sign a release to the organization for the discharge of responsibility
ART. 5 CATEGORIES OF PARTICIPANTS
In addition to the general ranking, for both ULTRA and EXTREME distances, there will be category rankings and prizes, based on the chronometric result of the sum of the finish times of every single stage, for the following categories
- MALE
- M1: Under 45 years old
- M2: 45-60 years
- M3: over 60
- FEMALE
- F1: Under 45
- F2: 45-60 years
- F3: over 60
- TEAM: a team is made up of at least 3 runners. To stay in the race, all team members must complete the race. The final ranking will be drawn up on the chronometric average of each team. However, each member is registered as an individual in the overall ranking
ART. 6 COMPETITION PROGRAM
November 20: self-sufficient arrival by 10pm, welcome at the airport and transfer to the tented camp
November 21: transfer by car (2h) and visit Banc D’Arguin. Transfer to Cap Tafarit, technical, administrative and medical briefing. Night in camp in Cap Tafarit
November 22: stage 1 (23km for everyone). Transfer by car (6h). Night in a tented camp near the Terjit Oasis
November 23: stage 2 (42km / 18km). Transfer by car (4-6h). Visit Oasis of Terjit and city of Atar. Night in a tented camp near the El Beyedh desert museum
November 24-25: stage 3 (84km / 42km). Overnight race or night in a tented camp (according to the finish times) near the Richat Structure. Transfer by car to Ouadane (1h) on November 25th and night in a tented camp
November 26: transfer by car to Chinguetti (1h). Relax and visit. Stage 4 (21km). Final party and night in a tented camp in Chinguetti
November 27: transfer by car to Nouakchott (4h). Market visit, drop off at the airport and end of services
ART. 7 SAFETY, ADMINISTRATIVE AND MEDICAL CHECKS
The checks will be carried out on November 21 at Cap Tafarit. Participants must report to the race administrators and the medical team responsible for carrying out these checks and must submit:
- compulsory material (ART. 13)
- medical certificate
- administrative certificates of enrollment
- declaration of valuables that will be left in the backpacks during the race stages
Race administrators are authorized at any time to check and supervise the participants’ backpacks.a
Following the checks, a technical briefing will be held in which the various stages will be described
ART. 8 BIBS AND IDENTIFICATION MATERIAL
At the end of the check, ART.7 will soon be delivered:
- 2 numbered bibs to be worn throughout the race (one to be attached on the chest and one on the back)
- 1 rescue light
The organization will provide participants with new bibs in case of damage or loss. The rescue light must be handed over at the end of the race. The loss of the the rescue light will result in a fine of 100 euros
ART. 9 ULTRA RACE

- Departure: 7 am
- Duration: 3h 30′
- Bottom: fine sand and salt
- Refreshments: final (water, salts, fruit)
- Relax in post-race Berber tents until 11:30 am
- SECOND STAGE
- Distance: 18km
- Departure: 6:30 am
- Duration: 3h
- Fund: track / fine sand / dunes / asphalt / stony ground
- Refreshments: final (water, salts, fruit)
- Relax in post-race Berber tents until 11 am
- THIRD STAGE
- Distance: 42km
- Departure: 2 pm
- Duration: 9h
- Bottom: fine sand / stony ground
- Refreshments:
- 21km: water and salts
- final: water, salts, food buffet and Berber tents ready to welcome athletes at any time
- Relax in post-race Berber tents until 11 am the following day
- FOURTH STAGE
- Distance: 21km
- Departure: 3 pm
- Duration: 3h
- Bottom: fine sand / dunes / track
- Refreshments: final (water, salts, fruit)
Any small time changes will be communicated during the briefing on November 21st. Competitors must leave with the obligatory material. Beyond the maximum time you will go out of the ranking
ART. 10 EXTREME RACE
- FIRST STAGE
- Distance: 23km
- Departure: 7 am
- Duration: 3h 30′
- Bottom: fine sand and salt
- Refreshments: final (water, salts, fruit)
- Relax in post-race Berber tents until 11:30 am
- SECOND STAGE
- Distance: 42km
- Departure: 6:30 am
- Duration: 7h
- Fund: track / fine sand / dunes / asphalt / stony ground
- Refreshments:
- 21km: water and salts
- final: water, salts, food buffet and Berber tents ready to welcome athletes at any time
- Relax in post-race Berber tents until 15 am
- THIRD STAGE
- Distance: 84km
- Departure: 2 pm
- Duration: 20h
- Bottom: fine sand / stony ground
- Refreshments:
- 21km: water and salts
- 42km: water, salts, food buffet and Berber tents ready to welcome athletes at any time
- 63km:water and salts
final: water, salts, food buffet and Berber tents ready to welcome athletes at any time
Relax in Berber tents after the race until 3 pm the day after the start
- FOURTH STAGE
- Distance: 21km
- Departure: 3 pm
- Duration: 3h
- Bottom: fine sand / dunes / track
- Refreshments: final (water, salts, fruit)

- FIRST STAGE
ART. 11 CHECKPOINTS
Checkpoints are present every 10km and each competitor must pass them, otherwise penalties will be applied. This allows Sea2Sahara to record times, manage withdrawals and request medical assistance
ART. 12 MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
A specially selected medical team, specialized in sports medicine, will be present throughout the race with the use of assistance vehicles. Instant medical assistance is provided upon the arrival of each stage and in the life base of the 42nd km of the 84km stage. It is possible to request medical assistance at the checkpoints which will guarantee the return to the tented camp at the end of the race for participants suffering from physical or mental fatigue
ART. 13 OBLIGATORY MATERIAL
Each participant must have the following supplies with them during the race:
- WATER: 2lt before departure and 2lt when restarting from the refreshment point. Bottles and camelbaks can be filled
- SALTS: 1 compulsory tablet every 20km
- COMPASS
- GPS
- FRONT TORCH: in the third stage
- RESCUE LIGHT
- WHISTLE
- LIGHTER
- PHOTOCOPY OF THE PASSPORT
- SUNBLOCK: in the stages longer than 23km
ART. 14 SIGNS
Participants must follow the route indicated by the organizers. The route will be marked every 1,000m approximately by means of: colored tapes, high visibility flags and groups of colored stones. There will be bright lights every 10km of the third stage
ART. 15 CLIMATE
Average temperature in November
- Day: 30 ° -40 °
- Night: 15 ° -25 °
In the event of a sandstorm that reduces visibility to zero, competitors must stop on their routes and wait for the organizers’ instructions
ART. 16 TERRAIN
The race takes place on a wide variety of terrains: beaten / wet sand tracks (20%), salt flats (5%), stones of various sizes (15%), flat fine sand (40%) and with dunes (5 %), dirt (10%), asphalt (5%)
ART. 17: RETIRING FROM THE RACE / ELIMINATION
Under no circumstances must a competitor leave the race without informing the organization. If a competitor leaves the race, he must notify the organizer as soon as possible and deliver his bib to one of the race administrators. A team whose member retires or is disqualified will no longer count as a team. In the case of partial withdrawak, which concerns the withdrawal from a single stage but not from the whole competition, the competitor will be imposed a penalty of the maximum time limit to complete the stage, but will be able to run in subsequent stages
If the competitor’s physical condition is satisfactory, he can continue the journey, otherwise he will be taken to Nouakchott to the hospital / airport for the return. A doctor will be available for consultations
ART. 18: DISQUALIFICATION
Sea2Sahara is a race across the Sahara where climatic and terrain conditions can be extreme. Any external assistance is strictly prohibited, under penalty of exclusion from the competition.
If a competitor strays from the race course, requiring a long search, he will be disqualified from the race
ART. 19: MEDICAL and LIABILITY INSURANCE
In addition to what is described in Article 12, an insurance policy is included in the price for participants to guarantee All Risk assistance, with the following characteristics:
- medical assistance to the person (up to € 100,000),
- assistance for relatives at home
- home assistance
- road assistance
- medical expenses: € 100,000 for emergency medical expenses and other associated costs
- up to € 1,000 in the event of loss or damage to luggage
- flight accidents, travel accidents, flight delays,
- third party liability
- 24 hour assistance

The organization is also the owner of:

ART. 20: MEALS
All meals with the following characteristics are included in the fee (Article 24):
- Breakfast: tea, coffee, water, eggs, cheese, nutella, bread, jam
- Lunch: rice, vegetables, chicken, bread, jam
- Dinner: rice, vegetables, chicken / fish, bread, jam
- Final refreshments and life base: tea, coffee, cheese, nutella, bread
- Intermediate refreshments: unlimited water, salts, fruit
ART. 21: ACCOMMODATION
All overnight stays will be made in mobile tented camps consisting of: Berber tents for 4-5 people, restaurant and relaxation tent. Mobile bathroom tents will be provided for 4 nights, where no standard bathrooms are available
ART. 22: BAGGAGE
It is allowed to carry only one large bag (backpack of maximum 70lt) + small backpack to be used during the race
ART. 23: REGISTRATION and FEES
The registration fee includes the following services (flight is excluded):
- 7 all in tented camps
- 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, 7 dinners
- all transfers by 4×4 cars
- water and salts for the entire race
- fruit and food in the refreshment points where required
- medical and liability insurance (Article 19)
- ground technical support
- medical assistance
- race registration
- medal and certificate for finishers
- Race pack: t-shirt, sweatshirt, S2S backpack
The costs are as follows:
- By March 15th
o Individual registration: € 2,900
o Team registration: 2.700 €
- By June 30th
o Individual registration: € 3,100
o Team registration: € 2,900
- Beyond June 30th
o Individual registration: € 3,300
o Team registration: € 3,100

You will then be required to fill in an enrollment form and attach a photocopy of your passport and medical certificate
ART. 24: MINIMUM NUMBER and MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
In order to guarantee a correct execution of the competitions:
- Minimum number: 40 participants. Until this number is reached, realization of the races is not guaranteed. The organization will communicate the achievement of the minimum number by 30/08
- maximum: 500 participants. Beyond this quota, the participation of potential participants is not guaranteed
In case of failure to reach the minimum number and cancellation of the event by the organization, a full refund of the amount paid is guaranteed
ART. 25: PAYMENTS
The following payments are expected
- upon booking: 500 €
- by 30/06: 500 €
- by 30/08: 500 €
- by 30/10: remaining balance
ART. 26: CANCELLATIONS
Voluntary cancellations of participants and refund requests must be sent via email to info@sea2sahara.com. The following cancellation penalties apply. If the withdrawal occurs during the period:
- prior to 60 days from the departure of the trip, you will be entitled to a refund of 50% of the total amount, excluding any additional insurance
- between 59 and 30 days before departure, you will be entitled to a refund of 25% of the total, excluding any additional insurance
- between 29 and 15 days before departure, you will be entitled to a refund of 10% of the total, excluding any additional insurance
Beyond this term, you will not be entitled to any refund
ART. 27: AWARDS
The following prizes are foreseen:
- FIRST PLACE (MEN and WOMEN) / TEAM: free participation to the Salar2Atacama 2022 event
- FIRST OF EACH CATEGORY (MEN and WOMEN): 20% discount for the Salar2Atacama 2022 event
ART. 28: RIGHTS
All rights to use the images, the site and the Sea2Sahara documentation belong to the organizers. By registering, the competitors allow their name and image to be available to the organization. Any photographic, video or other material produced during the competition cannot be used by competitors except for private use, unless a special authorization is given by the organization
ART. 29: ORGANISATIONAL RIGHTS
The Race Director reserves the right to modify these regulation by giving the reasons during the briefing on November 20th
ART. 30 LIABILITY WAIVER
All program participants with the signing of these regulations declare that they have been informed in detail of the problems and / or risks deriving from the competition, and undertake to sign the liability waiver that will be provided at the time of the general briefing on 21st November
